Depending on our stage of life, we buy a property to suit our circumstances and lifestyle at that particular time. Buyers may choose a property because it has lots of space for the kids, or it’s close to family or convenient for work, or maybe it was love at first sight for a cute cottage in a rural village to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Whatever the reason, as time passes by, what we want and need from a property changes

This is the scenario John and Roy found themselves in after they had lived in their Walpole St Peter bungalow for just over 12 years and found it wasn’t quite suiting their lifestyle anymore. “We originally fell in love with the village, along with its rural setting. Our bungalow was nice and private with a good-sized secluded garden,” explained John. “But over time, we felt a little too far from everything, so my partner Roy and I felt it was the right time for a change, to downsize and move somewhere that suited our lives as they are now.”

The wish list

John and Roy wanted to make sure their move ticked all the right boxes. “We wanted our new home to be near the sea as we both enjoy being by the coast. We also didn’t want to live anywhere rural and instead have shops within walking distance, so we didn’t have to rely so heavily on the car,” said John.

Searching for the one

Our property search took us further up the east coast to a new development in Bridlington. It was ideally located in the centre of town, so walking to the shops was easy, plus it wasn’t far from the sea, so we had the coast and all the fantastic walking trails on our doorstep,” explained John. “The house was ideal and when the site sales team told us about their Part-Exchange service with Spring, it sounded perfect, and we decided to go ahead. We got the ball rolling with Spring and accepted a price for our bungalow, but unfortunately the new property we wanted to buy wasn’t going to be ready and the timings no longer work for us, meaning we sadly had to walk away.”

It’s all about timing

John and Ray, disappointed they couldn’t get the house they wanted in time, reignited their search to find an alternative. The couple had yet to put their Walpole St Peter bungalow on the market and following a negative experience with an agent when they had tried to sell previously, John and Roy where hesitant about relisting their property again.  “We put our house on the market about 3 years ago to make this downsizing move, but the agent we listed our house with just didn’t deliver what was promised. We stayed on the market for 4 months in the hope we’d get an offer, but nothing materialised and in the end, we took the house off the market,” said John. “That’s why when we discovered Spring’s Part-Exchange service at the Bridlington new homes development, it was so appealing for us as it meant we didn’t have to worry about selling or waiting, and we could just get on with the move.”

With their heart set on Bridlington, John and Roy began to search for another new build that would again tick all the boxes on their wish list. Luckily, another development was in construction nearby with homes they loved and that had plots available. “We found a lovely property a Gleeson Homes development not too far away, the house was a good size detached with an integrated garage and an enclosed garden, plus it had the 3 bedrooms we wanted. On our first visit to the Gleeson Homes site, they didn’t offer Part-Exchange unfortunately, so we got back in touch with the team at Spring to see if they could help us again. The team were great, very helpful, and agreed to honour the price that was offered initially to us. Roy and I were delighted as it put our move back on track. It was such a relief for us knowing we didn’t have to worry about trying to sell our home again or run the risk of losing the new build property we wanted,” said John.

On the move

With their home sale agreed with Spring and a guaranteed completion date to suit in the diary, John and Roy could confidently pack up their Walpole St Peter home. “We had a lot to arrange and Spring’s free license to occupy feature was a great help, allowing us the extra time to move, plus get the new house ready at the same time,” commented John. “Throughout the sale of our bungalow, the Spring team, in particular Rebecca and Harnish kept us regularly updated on what was happening and how our sale was progressing, it was excellent service.”

Settled in and living the coastal dream

With the move now complete and happily settled into Bridlington life, John and Roy are enjoying this new chapter. “The move went according to plan, with no delays on the exchange or completion dates. The house is fantastic, and we’ve settled in very quickly,” said John. “It’s a shame that Gleeson Homes didn’t offer Part-Exchange at the time of our first visit, but I know they do now which is great news for other buyers wanting to move in using Part-Exchange. The whole move and Part-Exchange process has been excellent, I’m extremely pleased and would highly recommend Spring to friends and family.”

From all the team here at Spring, we wish John and Roy many years of happiness in their new home.
