After many years in the same home, deciding to downsize is never just about finances — it’s also deeply personal. Alongside the practical challenges of finding a new property, decluttering, and planning the next chapter comes the uncertainty of selling: Will it sell? How long will it take? What happens if the chain breaks? These questions can make selling a home feel daunting and stressful.

For Sandra, her 17th-century two-bedroom cottage in Kent wasn’t just an address—it was where she and her late husband, Pete, had spent over a decade of their happiest years together. “My husband loved where our house was located, as it was very close to his favourite golf course,” said Sandra. “It was in a good area and had easy access to motorways and all the amenities we needed. We were very happy there.”

Leaving the cottage behind was always going to be emotional for Sandra, but life was gently nudging her towards a new chapter: a smaller home, a quieter life, and the comfort of family close by. “After a while living on my own after my husband passed away, even though I loved the house, it was time to downsize and be nearer my daughter.”

Location, location, location

Knowing she wanted to live near her daughter, Sandra’s search led her to a new park bungalow on a Regency Living development. “I found a stunning two-bedroom bungalow in the town of Great Hockham in Norfolk; it was only 15 minutes from my daughter, so the ideal location,” Sandra said.

Sandra wanted to sell her home through an estate agent, and as Regency Living offered a Managed Sale service via Spring, she found it an appealing prospect. “I wanted to make the move as easy as possible, and as I was on my own, the idea of having Spring manage my sale for me was perfect,” explained Sandra. “I’d had a sale fall through already, so having Spring look after my sale this time round felt very reassuring. They were much more helpful than the previous state agents I had when my chain fell through, who were unhelpful and didn’t contact me at all. It only took a few weeks to get an offer, which I accepted, meaning I could secure my new Regency Living bungalow.”

Moving forward

With her sale progressing under the watchful eye of Spring’s Managed Sale team, Sandra could begin to declutter and plan her move into the bungalow. “The different stages of the sale were easily explained to me on a weekly basis, and the team at Spring were great, checking in before they left for the weekend to make sure everything was okay; they were very supportive,” explains Sandra. “The team were very helpful from beginning to end, and my sale completed in around 20 weeks. I was very happy with the outcome.”

A new beginning

With the move all complete, Sandra is truly embracing this new chapter of her life. “My bungalow is brand new and very spacious. The master bedroom has a fantastic en-suite and a walk-in wardrobe, which I love,” said Sandra. “The location is perfect too, in a rural area near stunning woodlands and forests. Since moving here, I've been walking much more, and with how close we are, my daughter can join me; it's wonderful. I’m so glad I made the move.

“Looking back, using the Managed Sale service was definitely the right decision for me.  I hadn’t heard of Spring before, which I was a little bit concerned about; however, they turned out to be fantastic.
